A seminar for Local Authorities being hosted jointly by Constructing Excellence and the Local Authorities Construction and Property Benchmarking Club http://lacpbc.econtrack.net/

The LACPBC is a performance improvement and benchmarking network for Local Authorities with a predominant membership contingent from London Boroughs.  The seminar is designed to review and examine the challenges facing Local Authorities in identifying a robust and relevant measurement framework for the procurement, delivery and maintenance of public buildings.

The 2008 National Highways Best Value Benchmarking Club (NHBVBC) Trainee, Graduate and Apprentice Competition will be officially launched at the NHBVBC Spring Conference at Edgbaston on Monday 12th May 2008.

The theme for this year's competition focuses on providing a better service to the Public.

The Winner or Winning Team receive a cheque for £250 together with a trophy and the runner up receives a cheque for £125 together with a Certificate.

The Competition is sponsored by Surveyor Magazine and the winners are likely to receive very good publicity click here to see what Surveyor had to say about last year's worthy winners

Highway Services are a big industry and they have a daily impact on the majority of people in the country.  With so much similar highway work being done by so many people in so many places there are tremendous opportunities for even small efficiency ideas to generate significant savings across the UK.  The key features of a good service improvement initiative are usually

·         Simplicity (in concept, implementation and operation)

·         Innovation (for example new tools – or better/combined use of existing ones)

·         Transferability (the ability for others to adopt the idea)

The National Highways Benchmarking Club operates an ethos of free transfer of ideas and best practice in order to help its membership and the industry provide the public with the best possible service.  It is recognised that often the best ideas for improvement come from the ‘sharp end’ and from practitioners who are in the training process challenging what they are doing and the way they are doing it.  That is just the thinking and approach that this competition seeks to promote!

This year's Conference continues the theme of improving efficiency gains within the Highways Sector, together with improving Public Satisfaction. 

A lively day is planned with a Key Note speech from Noel Foley representing the Local Government Taskforce, presentations from Members demonstrating how efficiencies have been made and from other key figures in the industry,

The Conference will also see the launch of this year's Trainee, Graduate and Apprentice Competition.  The theme for the 2008 competition is 'Delivering a Significant improvement in Public Satisfaction'.  The winners will be announced and prizes presented at the NHBVBC Annual Conference in London in October.
